One of my favorite things about living out west was watching the seasons change. I’d literally sit on my recliner, or my porch, and watch the seasons change. For some reason, the memory is in time-lapse form and I’m literally on my porch all year long. We all know that didn’t happen but, you get the point. It was a welcome and missed change from good ol’ Miami, Florida. Don’t get me wrong, we have seasons here. They’re just not winter, spring, summer, or fall. No, no. Our seasons are “wet” and “dry”. Seriously. The upside to this is the produce (if the overwhelming rainfall doesn’t destroy the crops). P.S. We have corn for Thanksgiving.
My favorite season, hands down, was spring. We don’t have spring in Florida, it’s just a perpetual wet or dry summer. However, our produce has officially entered into the spring season and now the whole country is following suit. What comes with spring? Beaches, barbeques, bees, skin, sun, shaving, and strawberry season.
This means you need a recipe for something that you can eat in the sun, take to a beach barbeque, and doesn’t take up important shaving time. Now, a moment of silence for Giada, who bestowed this fabulous idea upon us.
Here’s what you need:
Pound cake (from the store, or from scratch, if you like to complicate your life)
Nutella
Strawberries, sliced
Here’s what you do:
Slice the pound cake into sandwich style pieces (maybe 1/2inch-1 inch)
Spread some Nutella on one side (or biscoff spread if you’re feeling fancy). Pile some strawberries on the other side, and sandwich those slices together, like a perfect union. Place on the panini press on medium-low heat (or skillet, be careful flipping them, that pound cake can be a crumbly little sucker). Until the sides start to lightly golden like the beams of sunlight they bring upon your soul.
If you want to go crazy, plop on some ice cream or whipped cream (but it might just be better without it). These barely made it onto the plate for picture. Good luck getting a whole plate of them to a barbeque. Tell us what you think and tag us in the photos!
