A typical day consists of getting up early to make breakfast for the kids, change the baby, and then drop them off at school (usually 3 times per week).
I then head over to the office at 8:00 AM to see patients. Around Noon I go do rounds on my hospital and rehabilitation patients. This may mean traveling to a couple of facilities depending on the day.
I need to be ready by 2:15 PM to be able to pick up the kids from school. From there we have after school activities which consist of karate, swimming, and soccer. Abuelo and abuela sometimes join in the fun to squeeze in some quality time with the kids. When 6:30 PM hits, we are ready to wind down for showers, dinner, and preparing things for the next day.
Things are a little more hectic now since we are juggling our daily activities with a home addition/construction. I have full support and help from my amazing husband which sure makes it easier. The balance I currently have between my work and home life is perfect for me. Being “Medicine Mom” can be a little crazy at times but overall it is a thrilling and rewarding job description.
