I’ve said this a million times but I’ll say it a million more, the ocean is my happy place. I love everything about it. When I’m stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, happy, sad, excited, my mind drifts to the ocean. Boating has always been a family activity for me, since utero. Because of this, I’ve always had the pleasure of considering myself part of a community collectively referred to as “boat people”. That being said, I have never heard of anyone in this community refer to themselves as “boat people” but, we’re so low-key and run on island time, so we don’t even care.
There’s only one bad memory I have of the ocean, other than my uncle’s boat catching fire and everyone having to jump ship. Then again, no one was hurt so I can’t even call it a bad memory. In fact, we all look back and laugh. Years have passed and I don’t think my cousin has settled on a new name for the boat. It was between “The Inferno” and “The Heat is On”. He’s always been the funny one.
It’s bad cheese. Seriously. Bad cheese. That’s my ONE bad memory, cheese that sat in the sun too long. The ONE time in my life that I’ve become sick on the sea (I REFUSE to call it sea-sickness, the sea would never do that to me). I haven’t liked sliced cheese since. And then I met the Dometic CFX series and the light entered into my world again. Ice is out, coolers are “vanilla”, and Vanilla Ice is probably only vaguely upset about it because he’s too busy fixing up another million dollar house.
First, no more bad cheese. Second, no confusing the stinky fish cooler for the food and drink cooler (although it is perfect to freeze fish on longer trips). Third, breastmilk. YES, breastmilk. If you think pumping at the office is worse than pumping on the water or on the road, you are mistaken. Much worse is waiting all of that time before you can refrigerate your milk. Why carry ice, vaguely trust an insulated lunch box, or be forced to publicly store an intimate and priceless thing such as your breastmilk in the break-room fridge when you can store it in a Bordbar? Fourth, just milk in general.
Don’t even get me started on road trips. Okay, I’ve started on road trips. On our frequent long drives across all the United States of this America, the one thing that was mildly annoying was milk. I wasn’t even slightly bothered by the infrequent crying, the ginormous bag by my feet, having to pass a snack every ten minutes, or the dog that insisted on sitting behind my back for 45 hours. Those things don’t seem to bug me at all. It was the milk. Having to keep the milk cool when it needed to be cool and warming it when it needed to be warm. Refilling our cooler with ice, twice a day, required stopping at sketchy gas stations, as did our perpetual hunt for a working microwave. Then there was the hunt for the nearest Wal-Mart to find a replacement cooler when ours began leaking all over the floor of our car. If I had only found the Bordbar sooner. It cools when it needs to and heats when you want it to. You never have to make a pit stop at a sketchy station for the kids. Especially if you get one of Dometic’s portable potties, it’s like they live to make my life easier. 
We were thrilled to add the CFX 50 to our family and we were absolutely giddy about how icy it made our drinks. It has a refrigerating function and a freezing function, which glides down to a deep-freeze at -22 degrees C (if you’re looking for one that freezes and cools simultaneously, the CFX 65DZ or CFX 95DZW are for you). This means you can pass out popsicles and be the coolest mom on the soccer field. It’s extremely quiet and has a USB outlet so you can charge your phone while you frost your root beer. The cooler comes with an easily removable basket and optional divider. What was most impressive was how much it held. Capable of holding 46 L, it comfortably fit 15 water bottles, 4 IBC Root Beers, 1 Simply Made Lemonade, 6 sodas, 6 juice boxes, two yogurts, 1 family-sized veggie platter, 1 family-sized fruit platter, 1 entree salad, 4 6-inch subs, 1/2 pound of deli ham, pasta salad, and apple slices. That’s a mouthful. In simple terms, it fit a ton of stuff.
It’s 44 lbs without food in it so be mindful of transporting it around fully loaded. I highly recommend Dometic to anyone who camps, boats, road trips, picnics, tailgates, barbeques, likes the outdoors, loves the sun, enjoys a cold beverage or an ice cream sandwich.
