While we lived in Utah we always told ourselves that we’d make it out to the great NorthWest to visit both of Seth’s grandmothers but as always, our plans rearrange themselves. Luckily, we were able to squeeze in a quick visit and Isabella and I experienced Oregon and Washington for the first time. It couldn’t have come at a better time either. This summer was a wild one. We packed up our home and moved 3,000 miles back to sunny South Florida and we missed the west more than I could have ever expected. This trip curbed our craving for a little while. Speaking of cravings, I was able to find my Chef Shamy butter at Costco and brought four tubs home with me (check out my Chef Shamy review to see why this doesn’t make me a crazy person)! Aside from the butter, and the sweetest couple of ‘grammas’ that you’ll ever meet, our absolute favorite part about the trip was Haystack Rock.
Haystack Rock is a beautiful landmark stamped onto Cannon Beach, which is lined along a quaint beach town on Oregon’s coast where you can find shops, restaurants, and Isabella’s favorites, bakeries and candy shops. TripAdvisor ranks it as the best day trip along the Oregon coast from Portland.
This beach is a great field trip disguised as a vacation. During low tide, you can walk along the rocks where you’ll find tiny tide pools filled with marine life and starfish, sprinkled all over. Before the tide rises, you can adventure up to the front to explore the cave.
A visit can easily keep you occupied all afternoon. Do some shopping, grab an early dinner, and then hit the beach. And after watching the sun paint with ‘all the colors of the wind’, break out some wood and cozy up to a toasty bonfire (rules about beach fires here).
Just as a side note, an additional plus, there are no laws in Oregon that cap your marshmallow intake.
