I love shoes. They can make jeans look fancy, skirts look sporty, and when I put them on, I don’t worry about whether or not that extra cupcake will affect the fit. Shoes are my blessing and my curse. I walked out of a shoe store once with 26 pairs of shoes. I’m embarrassed and proud of that all at the same time. In my defense, six pairs were Christmas gifts. Fortunately and unfortunately, I am slowly passing this admiration on to my daughter. She loves shoes. LOVES shoes. She likes to pick out different colors and she definitely has her favorites. Her Freshly Picked moccasins are at the top of her list. They’re at the top of my list, too. Here’s why. In a nutshell, I care about the soles of littles and I am done with sole-searching. See what I did there? Puns are the most intelligent form of humor.
I struggled for a LONG time to find shoes that would stay on my little’s feet. For the first two months, even socks would CONSTANTLY slip off (I always picture that scene in Jim Carrey’s Grinch where his socks LITERALLY RUN AWAY FROM HIM). The way these moccs are designed, the elastic band lined by the leather shoe allows for you to stretch the opening to comfortably fit your little’s foot inside AND allows for a tighter, yet still spacey and completely comfortable fit around their ankle. Say goodbye to the days of lonely one-sided shoes, longingly waiting for their sole-mates to rejoin them on the shelf. No more ungraceful and unwelcomed “bend and snaps” for that right-side little sucker that DESPERATELY wants to never see you again. And GOODBYE to feeling like you’re a headless chicken as “excuse me, you dropped this,” is repeated time, after time, after time, and time again.
Freshly Picked provides a way to warm your newborns feet when those socks won’t stay on. They aren’t rigid, they’re flexible, and they’re thick enough to protect their toes. The biomechanics of the shoe are also brilliant. Heels weigh you down and change the way you walk. When you walk, and most importantly, when your little learns how to walk, the best way to do it is without shoes. However, when you’re out and about germs, fungus, rocks, and who knows what else, linger, waiting to destroy those little piggies. These light-weight leather shoes are strong enough to protect your littles, strong enough to put-off wear and tear, and strong enough to make a fashion statement. At the same time, there is no rigid structure so it allows your little’s foot to essentially, walk barefoot.
What about support? Well, it’s not as wonderful as you think it is. The protection provided by shoe support also prevents your muscles from developing in a way that allows them to support themselves. What I’m saying is, they will not fully develop. Click here for more about the health benefits of walking barefoot.
What else do I love about these Moccs? Everything. The colors, OH my heavens, the COLORS. So many colors! They also go with everything. From jeans to dresses. Many moms, especially those of little boys, complain about the lack of fashionable options for little boys, big boys, heck, even men. But like I said before, one of my favorite things about shoes is their ability to transform an outfit. Say hello to your GQ-ready little men when you slip these moccs on them. PS. They wont slip off.
Let’s be honest, are they $45-$60? Yes. Are there plenty of imitations? Yes, there are now imitations that have stolen the design and are recreating the shoe. So I looked into them. Here’s what I’ve found. You get what you pay for. Usually, less. The imitation moccs don’t look as nice and they’re made with poor-quality leather and imitation leather, aka vinyl. The paint chips, the leather wrinkles, and the elastic wears. Back to price. First, if you’re in Provo you can take advantage of the warehouse sales. If you’re not, there are online sales ALL of the time. PLUS, Freshly Picked has giveaways constantly taking place. Here’s how I look at it. Lose a shoe that cost you 20 bucks? Pay another $20 to replace them. Avoid the mess altogether.
And because I need to give you ONE more reason to head to Freshly Picked, Susan Peterson. Susan started this American-made shoe business on good ol’ fashioned hard work. Check out her story. Because of Susan, we’re able to bring you a phenomenal giveaway. Enter, share, tell us what you think, and tell us about how much you love shoes just as much as this babe.
