If there has ever been a year of ,”But wait! There’s more!” 2020 would be that year. Every person in the world has been affected by tragedy to some degree. Some of us have been much more fortunate than others, and some have suffered losses that I pray others will not experience in their lifetime. If while you’re counting your blessings this season, you are able and looking for ways to serve others, my blogger friends and I have put together a few ways to help the The Miami Rescue Mission.
The Miami Rescue Mission provides emergency shelter, job training, education, transitional and permanent housing, and employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children, as well as “at-risk” youth. Since 1922, they’ve been feeding the needy in South Florida. In 2019, with the help of 9,000 volunteers, they provided over 990,000 meals, 375,000 nights of safe shelter, helped 800 men and women find jobs, provided special programs for over 200 children, and encouraged 23,000 people in need through outreach.
If you’re local to Miami, FL or Broward County there are a few ways to VOLUNTEER
The first is as a cover girl. Cover Girls are mentors who spend their time, share their skills, and donate ten dollars monthly.

The second is as a Girlfriends for Girlfriends. Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends, continue their relationship with women whom have been temporarily housed in The Miami Rescue Mission and have been placed in either temporary or more permanent housing. They act as continued support for these women in touching base to see what their needs are and trying to either facilitate or meet those needs. The main goal of a girlfriends 4 girlfriends is to establish affordable housing for women and children that have been abused or have experienced domestic violence.
To get involved, email Marilyn Brummitt at Marilyn or call her at 305.571.2200.
If you’re not local (or local), here are some EASY WAYS TO DONATE
Some great bloggers and I have created an Amazon Wishlist for The Miami Rescue Mission women and children. There are toiletry items as little as $2.00 which will go a long way in helping facility and the people they benefit. All items are mailed directly to the facility for distribution. There are also gifts for children, household items, make up to help women feel interview confident, and other things which can help make this season a bit brighter.
If donating money is easier, you can Donate Money directly to the Miami Rescue Mission.
If you ARE local and have things around your home that you no longer need in your home you’re also welcome to Donate furniture, appliances, or more. Donate Furniture Provide meals
Small contributions by you may be a large and life changing contribution in the grand scheme of things this season. If you are able, I urge you to find ways to serve in this and all seasons. Service is how my heart has found the purest of love. A love that is not required, a love that is not grown, but a love that comes from humankind, just being kind. Be the kind in this world and the good that you want your children to be surrounded by.
If your 2020 has been any bit as difficult, I hope that you find peace, happiness, hope, comfort, and whatever blessings you need to pull you through.
